Ingredients
3 pounds mixed apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Gala, or Fuji)
1 cup light brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup applesauce (plain, unsweetened)
1 teaspoon non-alcoholic vanilla essence
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions
Peel, core, and quarter apples
Place apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, applesauce, and vanilla in a slow cooker
Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours
Blend mixture until smooth using an immersion blender or food processor
Return to the slow cooker and cook an additional 2 hours to thicken
Cool completely, then transfer to sterilized jars for storage
Notes
Substitute up to 50% of the apples with pears for a softer flavor profile
For canning: process in a water bath for 10 minutes
Store in the refrigerator for 2-3 months or freezer for 6-8 months
