Ingredients
- 8 oz shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 8 oz lump crab meat
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 8–10 pieces fresh or homemade garlic bread
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions, optional garnish
Instructions
- Chop the shrimp into quarters so the pieces distribute evenly throughout the filling.
- Gently check the crab meat for shell fragments.
- Add the crab meat to the chopped shrimp mixture.
- Combine softened cream cheese with minced garlic in a mixing bowl.
- Stir until the cream cheese and garlic are completely blended.
- Add mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese to the cream cheese mixture.
- Fold gently until the cheeses are incorporated.
- Stir in fresh dill, fresh parsley, Old Bay seasoning, smoked paprika, and lemon juice.
- Fold the shrimp and crab meat into the cheese mixture using a rubber spatula.
- Season the filling with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Select sturdy bread slices and cut them diagonally if needed.
- Use a small paring knife to hollow out a pocket in each bread slice without cutting through the bottom.
- Combine melted butter with a little minced garlic.
- Brush the inside of each bread pocket with the garlic butter.
- Spoon the seafood filling generously into each bread pocket.
- Pack the filling firmly but gently so it stays intact during baking.
- Arrange the filled bread pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the bread is golden brown.
- Watch carefully during the final minutes to prevent over-browning.
- Remove from the oven when the shrimp is opaque and the cheese bubbles at the edges.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes.
- Transfer to a serving platter.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and chopped green onions.
- Serve immediately while warm and crispy.
Notes
Use day-old crusty bread for the best texture and to prevent sogginess. Pat shrimp dry before chopping and drain crab meat thoroughly. Brush the bread pockets with garlic butter before filling, and avoid overfilling so the seafood mixture stays inside while baking.
